Overview and description

In the very heart of Asia, on the crossroad of caravan routes, extends a diverse and fascinating Uzbekistan. Wrapped in myths and legends, year after year it attracts travellers from all over the world to share its secrets and allow touching the greatest monuments of antiquity.

Specialization: cultural and ethnographic tourism.
Duration: 8 days – 7 nights.

Cities to be visited: Tashkent (1 night) – Samarkand (2 nights) – Bukhara (2 nights) – Khiva (1 night) – Tashkent (1 night)

From ancient time, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva were important trading cities on the Silk Road. To this day, these cities are famous for their rich history, unique architectural monuments.

One of the oldest cities in the world Samarkand with its 2750-years history amazes with its magnificent buildings of the medieval architecture that have been preserved until nowadays. It was here where the patron of science Mirzo Ulugbek erected his observatory in the XV century, which had no equal.

The ancient city of Bukhara opens its doors to lovers of antiquity. Each stone in this city reflects the history. The great scientists, such as physician and encyclopaedist Avicenna and historian Narshakhi, worked in this city.

The city of Khiva, whose final image was formed in the XVII century, throughout its long history has withstood all the tests of time and behind its adobe walls you can find masterpieces of the original architecture that have been preserved until nowadays.

 

Between Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara, the Talgo train “Afrosiab” runs daily. Depending on the time of arrival / departure planned in the program you can do some of the above mentioned routes by train instead of road.

We can change this program or prepare a new one, tailor made according to your wishes and preferences.

Tour itinerary

  • Day 1. Arrival in Tashkent. Sightseeing in Tashkent.

    Meeting at the international airport. Transfer to the hotel, check in and a short rest.
    During the city tour we'll visit the old part of Tashkent: Khast Imam Square, with a number of historical monuments like the Mausoleum of Kaffal Shashi, Barak Khan Madrassah, Tilla Sheikh Mosque and the library, which houses one of the oldest copies of Othman's Koran, dated to the VII century. Our further destination is the oldest Tashkent Bazaar – Chorsu. You will see several stations of the Tashkent Metro, walk through the Independence Square- Mustakillik; admire the Price Romanov’s Palace (outside) and visit the Museum of Applied arts.
    Overnight in Tashkent.

  • Day 2. Transfer Tashkent – Samarkand (300 km, 5 hours)

    Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Samarkand.
    Check in the hotel on arrival.
    The rest of the day is dedicated to sightseeing in Samarkand. This day, we will visit the Gur Emir Mausoleum (tomb of the Timurid dynasty), the famous Registan Square, and its monumental buildings: Ulugbek Madrassah, Sher Dor and Tillya-Kori Madrassahs.
    Overnight in Samarkand.

  • Day 3. Samarkand

    Breakfast at the hotel.
    A full day is dedicated to sightseeing in Samarkand. Today we will visit Meros paper mill, where the silk paper is produced according to the ancient technologies The first silk paper mill was built in Samarkand in the VIII century, then with the growing influence of the Arab Caliphate the secret of its manufacture has spread around the world.
    Then we will visit the Ulugbek’s Observatory, as well as one of the most Holy sites of Samarkand – the Tomb of St. Daniel, esteemed in three world’s religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Then we will move into the ancient time visiting the Afrosiab Museum, located on the site of the ancient settlement of Samarkand.
    Continue the tour by visiting the ensemble of Mausoleums of Shakhi-Zinda Necropolis, a place of pilgrimage for Muslims and at the same time one of the most beautiful ensembles of this amazing city.
    Walk through the Bazaar Siab, to see daily life of local people.
    Then we will see the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, according to legend built by the order of Tamerlane’s beloved wife.
    Overnight in Samarkand.

  • Day 4. Transfer Samarkand - Bukhara (280 km, 5 hours). Bukhara's outskirts sightseeing

    Transfer to Bukhara. On the way, we will see the portal of the ancient Rabat-i Malik Caravanserai and Sardoba.
    On the way we will visit monuments located in Bukhara’s suburb such as the summer residence of the last emirs of Bukhara Sitora-i Mokhi Khosa Palace, then visit the architectural ensemble of Bahauddin Naqshbandi built around the burial of one of the most influential founders of Sufism in Central Asia, as well as Chor-Minor Madrassah with its remarkable architectural shapes.
    Check in the hotel on arrival.
    Overnight in Bukhara.

  • Day 5. Bukhara. Sightseeing in Bukhara

    Bukhara is an open air city-museum with more than 170 ancient architectural monuments. Full day sightseeing tour of Bukhara includes: one of the most ancient monuments - the Tomb of Ismail Samani, built at the order of the founder of the Samanides dynasty. Visit the Chashma Ayub Mausoleum, Bolo Khauz Mosque, Ark Fortress, Poi Kalyan ensemble, composed by Kalyan Mosque, Miri-Arab Madrassah and Kalyan Minaret, one of the tallest minarets in Central Asia built by the ruler Arslan Khan and the word Kalyan is translated as the great.
    Go on sightseeing and visit the Ulugbek Madrassah, built in the XV century by the grandson of Tamerlane, a prominent mathematician and astronomer, and the Madrassah of Abdulaziz Khan, located opposite the Ulugbek’s Madrassah. Passing through the trading domes, you will see the Magoki Attori Mosque and architectural ensemble Lyabi-Hauz, composed by three monuments: Kukeldash Madrassah, Nodir Divan Begi Madrassah and khanaka. Bukhara is supposed to be birthplace of the legendary Nasreddin Hodja, known for his sharp word and wisdom. The rest of the day, you can enjoy leisure time wandering the streets of Bukhara, its colourful bazaars and century-old monuments.

  • Day 6. Bukhara - Khiva (470 km, 7-8 hours)

    Breakfast at the hotel.
    Transfer to Khiva. Today we have a 470 km route, where 300 km run through the desert Kizil Kum (red sands).
    On the way we will stop to see the biggest river of Central Asia – Amu Darya.
    Arrival in Khiva. Check in the hotel.
    Free time. Overnight in Khiva.

  • Day 7. Khiva. Transfer to Urgench (30 km). Flight to Tashkent.

    Breakfast at the hotel.
    The city of Khiva is the incarnation of fairy tales, the city surrounded by a defensive wall looks like a scenery for a movie about the ancient times of the Middle Ages.
    Sightseeing of the fortress city of Khiva includes the following sites: Kalta Minor Minaret, Muhammad Amin Khan Madrassah, the fortress Kunya Ark, housing reception hall kurinishkhona, Muhammad Rakhim Khan Madrassah, Said Alauddin Mausoleum, Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum, Islam Khoja Madrassah and Minaret.
    The further sight will be the Juma Mosque with 212 columns, surprising with a fine work of wood carving; Kutlug-Murad Inak Madrassah, Allakuli Khan Madrassah and Tash Khovli Palace with the Harem.
    At the end of the city tour, we can take beautiful pictures of the ancient Khiva at sunset.
    The bravest of us can climb the tower Aksheikh Bobo, with wonderful panoramic views of the city.
    In the evening transfer to Urgench. The flight from Urgench to Tashkent. Check in hotel and leisure on arrival.
    Overnight in Tashkent.

  • Day 8. Departure from Tashkent.

    Breakfast at the hotel.
    Transfer to the international airport. Departure from Tashkent. End of the program.
